Risen, and in better spirits following a Starbucks binge, we returned to the Gateway to catch the ferry to Elephanta island - en route we were employed by an elderly Indian man to take photos of him posing next to the various attractions, noteworthy as it was a new variety of photographer, which currently stand as (in ascending creepiness levels):
- ask for photo, do not pose with us
- ask for photo, stand next to us (varying degrees of contact)
- do not ask for photo, linger near us
- craftily take photo/video, expecting us not to realise
Elephanta island was fairly awesome: huge cave-temples carved into the hillside dedicated to Shiva, the highlight of which was the 6m-tall Sadhashiva statue - a three-faced Shiva depicted as destroyer, creator and preserver of the universe. I too entered eternal contemplation, enabling a closed-eye selfie.
Chased by savage monkeys, we hurtled back to the ferry on the embarrassingly slow "train", which looked fresh out of Legoland.
On our return to the mainland we admired the fantastic law courts and university, as well as the brownies at Theobrama. The lovely Mrs Gill took us to hospital for an assessment by her doctor, in hope of finding a reason for our illnesses; en route to a brill dinner at Khyber we passed the world's most expensive house, which had cost $1billion to build, and had its own zoo and restaurant!
With love
